Rolfe East Achieves High Standards

A little while ago Rolfe East received an invite from London Mayor, Boris Johnson, to join his London Rental Standard (LRS) – an initiative designed to raise professional standards in London’s private rented sector by providing a consistent benchmark of accreditation for consumers.

As a good, local, independent and established agent - who takes pride in our reputation for excellent service and advising on what really is best for our customers - we naturally applied. Well, we are delighted to announce that we have just received confirmation that we have been accepted and are now accredited to the LRS!

The scheme is voluntary and to be accepted an agent must meet the criteria of a set of minimum standards - which can be viewed via www.arla.co.uk/lrs - that the Mayor expects of letting agents who operate in London’s private sector. Once membership is confirmed the agent is permitted to publicise their membership using the promotional material and display the LRS logo.

The Association of Residential Letting Agents (ARLA) - of which Rolfe East is a member - has been appointed by The Mayor as one of the accrediting bodies for the LRS. ARLA fully supports the aims of the initiative in setting high standards, and with its moves to eliminate the small minority of rogue landlords and agents who neglect their responsibilities and bring the industry into disrepute.

More choice and competition for customers is healthy in any market and should in result in giving the best service but, unfortunately, this is not always the case, as evidence has shown during times of growth that some agents open and operate without regulation and provide doubtful service standards.

Our advice when looking to rent is to always:

Choose a local agent who has built a strong and trustworthy reputation over many years.

Ask for recommendations from friends or family.

Ask for reliable examples of other properties the agent has rented recently, as proof that they are dependable.

Select an agent who is a member of a National Approved Scheme, or one of the professional bodies that support it, i.e. Association of Residential Letting Agents (ARLA), National Association of Estate Agents (NAEA), The Property Ombudsman (TPO).

Oh, and pick one that has recently been accredited to the London Rental Standard!
